Understanding Your Options in Washington State
Depending on the nature of your past conviction or arrest, Washington law provides three primary ways to clean up a criminal background check: Once a conviction is removed, the law states you can legally tell employers, landlords, and the public that you were never convicted of that crime. The record is updated to show "Dismissed."
If you were arrested but charges were dropped, dismissed, or never filed, that arrest record can still show up on non-law enforcement background checks. We can request the total administrative deletion of these records, erasing the electronic footprint entirely.
